The lights in my bedroom flickered off and were quickly replaced by the portal bursting open. It shot toward the ceiling and pressed from wall to wall, leaving dents where the walls strained to contain it. As I stepped inside, the air tingled around me, and everything blurred slightly. I wasn’t sure if it was my eyes or the haze from the portal. Stood was deathly still, just staring at where the portal hovered open, displaying a beautiful forest. A slow breeze picked up, but it wasn’t natural because it came from everywhere instead of in one direction. Then I looked toward the opening on the other end of the portal. The forest was deathly quiet when I walked out. The forest was eerily quiet, and I instinctively honored the silence. Somehow afraid that if I uttered a word, I would draw the attention of whatever was lying in wait, the eerie presence hovering nearby that I couldn’t quite define. Suddenly an enormous monster with majestic black-velvet wings and frosted torque slithered like a dark snake. On the other side, I saw four men standing near the cliff, all of them I recognized; their faces gaped open in shock. I screamed, “Nathan! Darin! Dylan! Hon!” Then, from afar, I saw a lady draped in rounds of ammo on her body, face bruised and blood-spattered, dark eyes gleaming; she loped like a graceful dark panther across the battlefield toward them. I couldn’t believe it. “Mom!” Then I was shocked by a white-winged angel in the sky of forbidding thunderclouds, watching through narrowed eyes for movement on the ground. The angel land amid the battlefield, angling his wings back and up, close to protecting a small body. I was dumbfounded that it was my little girl. “Evelyn-Skye!” She was already moving away from the angel, gaze shifting across the battlefield, watching for movement, and ran to my mom-in-law. I saw the demon capture my boys and squeeze them with its tail. My mom raced toward them. She stopped when my daughter tossed Mom the spear, watched it fly through the air, measured my daughter for a long moment, and nodded. Then my mom attacked the creature. With all her strength stabbed it with the sword from the throat down its chest and sliced the heart into pieces. My husband ran toward me. I screamed and tried to run to David. From nowhere, another sinister creature appeared and captured him before he got to me. This creature’s hand was around his throat, choking off David’s words. My three boys broke away from the demon’s tail to fight this different demon, freeing their dad. From above, the angel flew in and grabbed Evelyn-Skye taking her to safety in heaven. The air around me became charged. I felt the presence of pure evil inside me. My hands started to shake violently, and I started gasping for air. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t catch my breath. This evil spirit had reached right through my supposedly impenetrable barrier, squeezing my entire body. It was mentally twisting my mind inside out. I collapsed to the ground. I was paralyzed lying there. My mom hurdles the sword to David. He got to me, held me down, and touched my head. He prayed and prayed and then stabbed me with the spiritual sword. Without warning, an entity of something evil burst and shot from my mouth. Somewhere far away, I heard voices calling my name and telling me to follow the light and the sound of their voices. Miraculously, it pulled me through the darkness. As it was, I felt the same familiar sparkling start in the heart’s center and unfolded the power of love. I opened my eyes. My daughter, sons, mom-in-law, and husband surrounded me. We all looked up into the sky and saw the light shining down from heaven. I knew we were safe. I woke up soaked in sweat, filled with God’s healing power. This is my family, and we will forever be reunited.
